Approximately 1,000 members of the American Federation of Labor unions employed in the Brooklyn Navy Yard converged on Washington and protested layoffs at the yard. The unions are combined in the Brooklyn Metal Trades Council and among those who called on Senator James Mead, Center, (Democratic-New York), are Left to Right, George Gerchoff, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Brooklyn Metal Trades Council, Ed Gay, Vice President, Metal Trades Council; Senator Mead; N.B. Alifab, President of District 44, International Association of Machinists, and Robert Schrawk, President of New York Council of Machinists.
