1936 Press Photo Hero J.O. Barbour Saved Five People After Boat Overturned

J.O. Barbour saved the lives of five people early yesterday when he swam for aid after their boat had overturned in the ocean near Santa Monica, California. The three women and two men held on to the overturned skiff while Barbour, the only swimmer swam 500 yards and gave a call for aid. Barbour was treated for a wrenched knee. The others were given first aid for exposure and shock after they have been taken ashore. Photo shows J.O. Barbour recuperating from his experience.
