Description
Caption: Loraine Thomas1st district GOP chairwomanAn interesting and potentially awkward struggle is taking place within the Republican Party over who will be the next GOP nation committewoman from Michigan. It pits Ronna Romney, who is white and the daughter-in-law of former Gov. George Romney against Lorain Thomas, who is black and GOP chairwoman in the First Congressional District.Romney, 40, of Bloomfield Hils, has been lining up an impressive string of endorsements and is considered the favorite. But Thomas, 55, of Detroit, argues that party interests would be served better with some black representation in its high councils. She notes that the Republican National Committee is all white except for LeGree Daniels, who heads the National Black Republican Council.
