1969 Press Photo Police Commissioner Johannes F Spreen

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: GREEN WAS the color Monday for Police Commissioner Johannes F. Spreen in more way than one. William Gershenson, president of the Hotel Pontchartrain, presented Spreen with this wire-mesh "shamrock" laden with dollar bills for Spreen's "Back Up Your Police Force" campaign. The money was contributed by hotel employes. Spreen also received $81 from a group of sixth-grade students at St. Agnes' School, Twelfth and LaSalle Gardens. The youngsters had raised the money by putting on an "Irish Minstrel Show" at the school.
