1951 Press Photo Mayflies life cycle and trout fishery

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: MAYFLIES, which give trout and trout fisheries their most exciting season, go through an intricate life cycle as the drawing shows. Eggs, dropped late the water, turn into nymphs. These finally hatch into "duns". Duns take to the tree for 24 hours after which they shed skins again and become "spinners". Fish feed on the flies during all stages but go crazy when they emerge from the water.
