Description
Caption: An elderly blind woman and her adult daughter died Saturday in a fire at their small frame home on Detroit's west side in Detroit, Michigan. The women, Mary Harris, 72, and Nadine Harris, 32, died after firefighters pulled them from the home on Linsdale near the Jeffries Freeway. Investigators said Nadine Harris might have been overcome by smoke while trying to rescue her mother. The younger woman was a cafeteria worker at Kresge's in downtown Detroit. Next door neighbor Chester Lee Cox reported the fire. Thick metal window screens intended to keep out burglars hampered a rescue. Their pet dog was found with the two women.
