Description
Caption: Several feet of water blocks traffic on Telegraph at I-94 underpass Wednesday evening. Flooding is called worst in 10 years. Nearly three inches of rain fell in the Metro Airport area Wednesday afternoon, flooding roads and homes and causing monumental traffic jams. Romulus, where the airport is located, Taylor and the south end of Dearborn Heights were hit the hardest. One Dearborn Heights resident said Wednesday night that water had risen through the basement ceiling into his living room. Police said churches were opening to provide shelter. The National Weather Service said 2.88 inches of rain fell at Metro between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and, together with Monday's 1.6 inches, produced the worst flooding in more than 10 years.
