Description
Montgomery, Alabama - "Birmingham News" staff photographer Charles Nesbitt chose this shot of George Wallace and Jimmy Carter meeting in Montgomery after Wallace had thrown his support to Carter and Carter was assured of the Democratic nomination. "This is my favorite because everybody else shot close-ups. I happened to be farther way and got the porch and columns, which I think was better for setting the mood than the close-ups. It is satisfying when you get a picture which sets the tone of what is happening. It makes the shot more meaningful to you." He used an Olympus-1 camera with a 200mm lens at 1/250 sec. at f8.

Photo measures 6.5 x 9.5 inches. Photo is dated 01-01-1977.
