Description
In days gone by. Work was just beginning on the main span of the Goethals Bridge when this photo was taken in October 1927. The span is named for Major General George W. Goethals, the builder of the Panama Canal and the Port Authority's first consulting engineer. Both the Goethals Bridge and the Outerbridge Crossing were opened to traffic on June 20, 1928.
