1938 Press Photo Nathan Straus to Ask Congress for Additional Funds for Housing

U.S. Housing Administrator, Nathan Straus (L), and the Director of the National Assoc of Housing, are shown inspecting a model of a model housing community at the 6th annual meeting of the National Assoc of Housing Officials. Straus told the officials the Federal Slum Clearance Program will eventually solve the American Housing Program and revealed he will ask the next session of Congress for additional funds to continue operations. Speaking on the first anniversary of the initiation of the program, Straus disclosed that only $76,000,000 remains of the original $800,000,000 Federal Housing appropriation.
