A Soviet Union icebreaker, the Lenin, cuts ice in the Arctic. The Lenin, the Soviet Union's atomic-powered, 16,000-ton icebreaker, cuts its way through ice in the Arctic Ocean at night. The ship is reported to be the world's first atomic icebreaker. This picture was issued by the Soviet agency Novosti.
