Description
United Mine Workers Pres. John L. Lewis testifies to the senate. John L. Lewis, 78-year-old United Mine Workers president, appeals for passage of legislation to require all mines to comply with the Federal coal mine safety act. Testifying before a Senate labor subcommittee, Lewis said today the present exemption of mines employing 14 or less men underground from enforcement of health and safety standards has cost many lives.
