Compton, California, June 7 - Courtney runs fastest 800 meters in United States this year - Tom Courtney, former Fordham star competing for the 1st Army, wins the 800 meters in the All-Army Track and Field Championships here yesterday, with a time of 1:47.5, best in the United States this year. Second was Gene Maynard (background), also of the 1st Army. Ernest Castillo of the 4th Army was third. They will compete in the Inter-Service championships here this weekend to determine entrants in the United States Olympic trials.
