1968 Press Photo AFL-CIO President George Meany at Washington news conference

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
AFL-CIO President George Meany at a news conference in Washington today said the United Auto Workers Union, headed by Walter Reuther, would be suspended if it does not pay its dues by Wednesday, May 15. Reuther and other UAW leaders have sharply criticized Meany's leadership, and at its recent convention voted to place its approximately $1-million-per-year dues in escrow, instead of continuing payments to the AFL-CIO, pending possible settlement of Reugher's criticism.

Photo is dated 1968.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8 inches.
