William McChesney Martin, Jr., right, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, and Treasury Secretary Henry M. Fowler appear today before the Senate Banking Committee in Washington to ask removal of the gold cover requirement on U.S. currency. If present trends continue, they said, the U.S. will have no free gold left in two years.
