Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield of Montana tells newsmen today that the Senate Democratic Policy Committee has directed the Senate Rules Committee to reopen its Bobby Baker inquiry. Senate Republicans claim that Matthew H. McCloskey, Jr., a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,contractor, Democratic fund-raiser and former Ambassador, paid $35,000 kickback on a $20 million contract to build the D.C. Stadium, with $10,000 going to a Washington insurance agent who handled the construction performance bond, and $25,000 to Baker for the 1960 Kennedy-Johnson campaign fund.
