Alf Landon, 1936 Republican presidential nominee, still begins his day by fixing himself coffee and spreading the morning paper all over the table. Landon turns 87 Monday and plans to spend a quiet day with a small family dinner in the evening. In a birthday interview, he lauded President Ford and Congress for the cooperative spirit with which they are attacking economic problems. Landon remains alert, reads extensively, and still is sought out for political advice.
