C. Brooks Backeland, left, Peter R. Gimbel, center, and Jacques A. Istel, right, are three New Yorkers who will leave next week to attempt to parachute to the top of a jungle-locked plateau high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, not accessible by other means. They will attempt to unlock the mysteries of the ancient Incas in an expedition sponsored by the National Geographic and the New York Zoological Societies.
