1954 Press Photo Robbery Suspect Allen Donaldson, Hattiesburg, Mississippi

Arrested for the hammer beating of Mrs. Harvey Foster, Hattiesburg, Mississippi furniture store operator, is Allen Donaldson, 28, of Slidell, Louisiana. Flanking the black suspect are Patrolman Allen Sullivan (left) and J.P. Venus. Authorities said Donaldson made a "full confession" and quoted him as saying that he was "crazy drunk" at the time of the crime. Mrs. Foster, in critical condition at a Mississippi City hospital, was found beaten in her store Wednesday. Officers said Donaldson admitted taking her purse - which contained only a nickel - after the attack. District Attorney Lawrence Arrington said he will ask the death penalty for Donaldson on a charge of armed robbery.
