Description
Poster girl for the New Orleans Metropolitan Chapter of the March of Dimes for 1968 is Janet Lee Smith, who is pictured with her mother, Mrs. Jack Smith of Westwego. When Mrs. Jack Smith, of Westwego, was told her newborn daughter was suffering from several, heartbreaking birth defects, the shock was so great she fainted dead away. Even when she came to, Mrs. Smith had a hard time believing that Janet Lee, as she planned on calling her, had been born with practically no left arm and with a right leg that was much, much shorter than her left leg. Added to that, Janet's right hand boasted only a thumb and two fingers, And the two fingers were stuck together web-fashion!
