Mayor Moon Landrieu (right) and Toddie Lee Wynne Jr., chairman of the board at New Orleans East, Inc., Thursday jointly announced the preparation of an application to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for up to $50 million in funding, With it, the city would purchase 6,000 to 12,000 acres from New Orleans East, Inc. to develop a "new town in town."
