1961 Press Photo Captain Thomas Woolverton who built Dr. Woolverton's home.

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
The house was built by steamboat captain Thomas Woolverton, grandfather of Mrs. McKay, for his younger brother, Dr. Asher Van Woolverton. Dr. Woolverton received his degree in 1854 from the medical department of the University of Louisiana, predecessor of Tulane. A horse-and-buggy physician, he traversed the rutty roads of the Enterprise area for more than 50 years, years that included the agonizing ones of the Civil War. During the war he took time out from his tireless tours of duty to give surgical service to the wounded at the siege of Vicksburg.

Photo is dated 1961.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
