1975 Press Photo Gingerbread house, The German Seaman's House - nob21062

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Bazaar's gingerbread house - just like in Hansel and Gretel. That's right. You'll be able to get very unusual and imported gifts, things that you normally wouldn't find in Stateside stores. And it's all for a good cause. The German Seaman's House dates back eight years. It's designed to be a bit of homeland for literally thousands of German and German-speaking seamen who annually come ashore in the New Orleans area (New Orleans-to-Lake-Charles-to-Baton-Rouge-to-Mobile). The primary support of the seamen's house comes from the Lutheran Church of Germany, which, in turn, is supported by German taxes.

Photo is dated 1975.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
