Description
It's turnabout for Peter Dassinger. Used to placing people before the cameras, he's the central figure now in a documentary which Lafayette video figure Jack East is shooting (his network is interested) on the unique job Peter created for himself; the movie-extra business. East became interested on location coverage of "The Undefeated," which had 1100 man-days of extra work, with its Civil War scenes. Peter's first dividend on East's project was when he found himself in Lafayette having a date with newly divorced glamour girl Mamie Van Doren: real date, manufactured circumstances... and so filmed "fact" is born. Actually, they found common ground in mutual friendship with the late Jayne Mansfield, who had a lunch date with Pete for the day after her fatal drive from the Mississippi Coast. Peter's virtual monopoly with the major studios on the extra business in Louisiana (four movies this year) is a testament to years of careful catering to the wants, whims and whistles of movie-industry executives. With "The Undefeated," he went international, shipping extras to Mexico. Now Italian producer Paolo Lomi has contracted for Peter's services in Brazil for his next film, to roll in January.
