The cornerstone for the county's portion of the public safety building was laid Wednesday afternoon by William e. McCarty, chairman of the county board, and John Messmer, superintendent of construction. Members of the board of supervisors, county officials and judges attended the exercises. A group of the onlookers and participants is shown above directly over the cornerstone, at the southwest corner of the building, marked "1928". The county's portion of the building will cost approximately $1,400,000 when completed. Mr. McCarty is seen sealing the cornerstone deposit box with a trowel of cement.
