1943 Press Photo Cape Gris Nez lighthouse on the coast of France - mjm01808

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
This is the invasion coast of France as see from England. This view shows six miles of the coast line and the Cape Gris Nez lighthouse (arrow) as pictured with telescopic lens and special film from the southeast coast of England 22 miles away. According to British intelligence, the lighthouse is surrounded by buildings and huts which probably house German coastal defenses which would have to be destroyed if the cliffs were to be scaled. (United States) (World War II) (France)

Photo is dated 1943.

Photo measures 9 x 7 inches.
