Description
Novelist John Hersey interviewed the widower of a Japanese woman while doing research for a book in 1957. In covering the case of the woman's death and the American soldier charged with killing her, Hersey also attended court, talked with the soldier in the longest of his rare interviews and talked with attorneys, the woman's daughter and the soldier's Japanese wife.
