Description
President Lyndon Johnson and John Glenn enjoyed a hearty laugh after Glenn was promoted to full colonel in 1964. A White House rose garden ceremony that made Glenn a full colonel in the United States marine corps. The promotion was made despite Glenn's request that he be passed over because of his impending retirement from military service. He will soon join a soft drink company in an executive position.
