1956 Press Photo Baby Manatee, Ferdinand, is Pulled from a Tank by his Keeper

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
The manatee (above) is a cousin of the dugong. A keeper pulls Ferdinand out of the tank to clean the enclosure. Note the wide, flat tail of the manatee. Ferdinand's first portrait is snapped as he is pulled out of the water by his keeper. Manatees' features are supposedly the basis for some mermaid legends. (Animals - Manatee)

Photo is dated 1956.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
