1955 Press Photo Raft heads for sea under Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco

Description
San Francisco. The raft Lehi II, with only one member of its crew aboard, head for the open sea under the Golden Gate Bridge on the end of a tow rope to begin a 2,400 mile drift to Hawaii. The one crewman aboard was Laurence Hall, first mate. He had company of two men when Skipper deVere Baker and his three other crewmen were to go aboard from a tug. Last year Baker and another crew made a futile attempt to drift to Hawaii on the first Lehi which had to be abandoned.
