Description
Imperial Palace Grounds in Tokyo are open to the general public twice a year, on New Year's Day and on the Emperor's birthday, April 29. This view of the moat surrounding the palace and one of the gates shows the contrast of the modern city and the ancient architecture of the imperial palace, until 1869 a residence of the Shogun.

Photo is dated 1957.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8.25 inches.
