Description
Newsmen examine a prototype Passenger train car designed to race along rails at 250 miles an hour--twice the speed of any passenger trains operating today. It was displayed in Los Angeles today by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The research train is powered by a linear induction motor. The magnet-like motor straddles high aluminum rail, shown at right, setting up a magnetic field which draws the vehicle forward along the rail. Mass Transit Systems
