Description
Fire Hazards. Left to Right: Acting Sr. Captain A.L. Kiel, PTL. L.M. Maler, C.A. Robinson, owner of 2030 Nina Lee, plastic clock, salt & pepper shakers, plastic milk jug, plastic garbage can (most dangerous as cigarettes etc are put out in it.) Acting Junior Fire Captain A.L. Kiel, left, and firefighter L.M. Maler inspect the home of C.A. Robinson, standing, and point out fire hazards: A plastic wastebasket, plastic clock, plastic salt and pepper shakers all placed close to a store. Plastics do burn-smoldering and emitting toxic gases that kill. Firefighters say plastic garbage cans are extremely dangerous because so many people toss cigarettes or matches into them, thinking they're "flame retardant," thus safe.

Photo is dated 1979.
