Lourdes, France - Infirm pilgrims in wheelchairs lead procession of pilgrims through the narrow streets to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes where celebration of High Mass outside the Basilica marked the opening of the centenary of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous (now Saint Bernadette) in 1858. An estimated 50,000 persons from all corners of the world attended the opening ceremonies.
