John Wayne (top right) is nominated and the favorite for the best actor award in this year's list of Oscar contenders. His performance in "True Grit" after a career of 40 years in the movies makes him hard to beat. Dustin Hoffman and John Voigt (lower right), stars of "Midnight Cowboy" would seem to cancel each other out. Two veteran British contenders, Richard Burton ("Anne of the Thousand Days") upper left, and Peter O'Toole ("Goodbye, Mr Chips") lower left, seem to have only slight chances.
