1940 Press Photo Robert Sweeny Takes Solo Flight from West Palm Beach Airport

Wavy-haired Robert Sweeny, New Yorker who once won the British amateur golf championship and whose name has been romantically linked with that of Countess Barbara Haugwitz-Reventlow (Barbara Hutton) is shown beside a plane at the West Palm Beach Airport where he recently made his first solo flight. Sweeny had only eight and a half hours of instruction from Wright Vermilya, former army flier, when he took the ship aloft on his own.
