John L. Lewis, president of the striking United Mine Workers Union, is shown in his car following his appearance before Federal Judge T. Alan Goldsborough today. The mine union chief denied that he is guilty of contempt of court for refusing to halt the nation wide soft coal shutdown and was ordered to stand trial November 27th.
