Dr Dale Alford an outspoken segregationist hugs his wife and proclaims himself victor over Democratic Congressman Brooks Hays of Little Rock. Alford blasted Hays moderate stand on the integration question and ran as a last minute write in candidate against the veteran of 16 years in Congress. Alford is a life long Democrat but had run as an Independent since he did not take part in a primary.
