1937 Press Photo District Atty. John Schwartz questioning Frank Hanawald

Questioned In Brewer's Kidnaping Hawthorne, NY...Frank Hanawald, a German alien, right is pictured as he was questioned by District Attorney John Schwartz of Duchess county, in connection with the kidnaping of 61-year-old Julius Redlich, wealthy sportsman and brewer. Redlich was held captive in a cave after being abducted from his Wingdale, N.Y. home last Sept. 4th. The kidnaper released him three hours after taking him to the cave after the brewer refused to pay the ransom demanded.
