Diego Martinez Barrio Vice President of Republican Spain and Chairman of the Cortes Parliament was named acting President to succeed Manuel Azana who resigned it was announced by the cabinet of Premier Juan Negrin. The announcement said the Negrin Cabinet is now studying the question of the election of a new President in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
