1938 Press Photo Governors at the Southeastern States Governors Conference

Political news of first importance was made by seven governors attending Southeastern States' Governors' Conference in Washington. They agreed in return for various concessions to support administrations' wages and hours bill, virtually assuring its enactment. After their history making decision the governors attended dinner at the Hotel May Flower. Governor Clyde Hofy, of North Carolina is pictured here, flanked by two prominent "Washingtonians' Speaker of the House Bankhead, on the left and Postmaster General Farley on the right.
