1948 Press Photo Robert William Wiener testifies before the Dies Committee

Robert William Wiener, Secretary of the Communist Party in 1939, shown testifying before the Dies Committee at that time, is believed to be the William Wiener mentioned today in testimony given by ex Communist leader Louis Budenz, Budenz, former Managing Editor of the Communist Daily Worker, who quit the Communist Party and is now a Fordham University instructor, testified in a Senate Expenditures Subcommittee inquiry into Communist Infiltrators into the government. Budenz also identified Elizabeth Bentley as a "courier for espionage purposes" in a wartime Soviet Spy Ring in the United States Government.
