John L. Lewis sat unsmiling and with his hand to his cheek as he heard a procession of miners from the Pennsylvania Anthracite area declare before the War labor Board in Washington, January 15 that a wildcat strike involving 17,000 men was due to a rank and file revolt against increased dues and also to demands for $2 a day wage rise.
