Description
From traffic cop to sheriff Last Spring, Jimmy Sullivan, above, resigned from the Miami, Fla., police force to seek the Democratic nomination for Sheriff. The strapping policeman won the $7,000-a-year post with 20,000 votes to spare. (The Democratic nomination is equivalent to election.) For ten years he's directed traffic on Miami's busiest corner. Now 38, he turned up at the University of Miami recently as a student. "I'm taking special courses," he explained. "Government, current events, things that will help me prepare for the sheriff's job."

Photo is dated 1944.

Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches.
