1975 Press Photo Village of Torre Angela in Rome, Italy - sax17860

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Torre Angela, a village of 4,000, located on the rim of Rome, offers one sign of the grave economic crisis facing Italy. The entire village, one of 100 encircling Rome, was illegally built and officially does not exist. Torre Angela was constructed mostly by families enticed from the backward and poor south of Italy by dreams of jobs. About 800,000 of Rome's 2.8 million inhabitants live in illegally built dwellings.

Photo is dated 1975.

Photo measures 9.75 x 8.25 inches.
