In 1990, filmmake Judith Helfan (ABOVE, with mother as adult and as a baby; BOTTOM RIGHT) turned the camera on herself to document her battle with cancer caused by DES, the drug prescribed to her mother during pregnancy. Refusing the confine the tears, rage, laughter and hope to dinner table conversations, Helfand invites us to witness her personal journey from radical hysterectomy patient to vocal opponent of toxic exposure. In A HEALTHY BABY GIRL, Helfand takes us from her suburban home to the halls of Congress and reveals how the intensely private becomes widely public and a family is transformed and strengthened.
