Description
Charles De Greef, a Portland Insurance underwriter, was a high school boy in Arnhen during the ill-fated Allied attempt to seize the bridge there, the last in a series of five meant to be taken to give the Allies a corridor through which to strike deep into German territory and shorten the war by month. The operation is the subject of the film "A Bridge Too Far," opening June 15.
