1951 Press Photo Plant workers clean silt from reservoirs along the Mississippi.

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
These water plant workers are cleaning the silt from tanks in which the city's drinking water is produced out of the muddy Mississippi. Plans now call for an automatic system of cleaning these tanks. This will eliminate the need for shutting the tasks for periodic cleanings, thus increasing the water-producing capacity of the plant.

Photo is dated 1951.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
