Description
The old world, largely the world as we know it, is going to the dogs, Archibald MacLeish said here yesterday, and not only the United States but Russia make the mistake of trying to defend it. "I don't like the picture," he added, "of us as Horatius at the Bridge, but there we are defending it as the older world deteriorates." Mr. MacLeish, 56, the distinguished poet who turned to affairs of state, and was, in fact, Assistant Secretary of State and a delegate to UN conferences, spoke before the Lyceum-Tulane Association last night at McAlister Auditorium.

Photo is dated 1949.

Photo measures 9.25 x 7.5 inches.
