Honor valiant sub commander, New London, Connecticut - Chief Radioman Joseph M. Eckberg (left) of Chicago, Illinois, and Chief Electrician's Mate Oliver J. Cameron of Poquonnac, Connecticut, both of the U.S. Navy, walk through the door of Gilmore Hall at the New London Submarine School. The building was named in honor of Commander Howard W. Gilmore, heroic submarine skipper who gave his life to save his ship and crew. Commander Gilmore's wife and children live in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Photo is dated 1943.
